E! Entertainment, the new chapbook by Kate Durbin (Serenade Sunset 2010, Silver Lake Jubilee 2010), is blowing up! Divided into four chapters, the book repurposes a variety of textual documents related to pop culture icons, from reports of Lindsey Lohan’s court appearances to transcriptions of The Hills, ending in a well-crafted fusion of high-concept literature, like this excerpt from her chapter on Lohan, which grafts together celebrity news coverage in a repetitive chorus of newsflash:
After Lindsay Lohan was charged with felony grand theft for allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store in Venice Beach, California, the Hollywood actress has arrived back at a Los Angeles court—to find out whether she’s headed to jail again.

Wearing a fashionable white dress, the actress, 24, arrived in a black SUV for a hearing before Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz, the latest bump in her ongoing probation.
Earlier, the Mean Girls star was ordered to appear at a hearing at the Airport Court at 1:30 p.m. PT.

Her bail has been set at $20,000.
Coverage continuing.
Married to Rock reality TV star loves Durbin’s chapters “Lindsey Lohan Arrives at Court” and “Anna Nicole Show,” and novelist Blake Butler says “There is no one sporting hypermediaflesh like Kate Durbin’s…. she strips the TV image from its old curves, reupholstering 2D-packed pixelshit into clipped components, sentences, where somehow less surrounded they take on the shape of psychically deformed wallpaper.” Durbin, whose performances at the Serenade Sunset and the 2010 Jubilee are memorable for her characteristically bold style choices and strong stage presence, has already read at Jubilee participant Skylight Books, but has readings forthcoming in New York City (with Jubilee 2010 alum Amaranth Borsuk), Cambridge, and Amherst. Durbin’s other recent performances include the Bad Princesses Parade at the West Hollywood Book Fair and Whatever, a performance based on the movie Clueless!, both for Jubilee partner Les Figues Press. Oh yeah, and her N O BIKINI or I WOULD RATHER GO NAKED THAN LET OPRAH DRESS ME.
